Swinging magic for Vegas's wedding night

Comedian Johnny Vegas found a funny way to spend his wedding night - playing on the swings in a children’s playground.

Vegas married girlfriend Kitty Donnelly in San Francisco last month and decided on an unusual celebration.

The happy couple starting by riding a tram up and down the city’s streets sharing a bottle of champagne.

“It was fantastic. Then we went to a park and were on the swings until half past one in the morning.

“I was sitting there, pushing my wife on a swing, thinking ‘this is magic’,” Vegas told Now magazine.

The 31-year-old comic tied the knot with Donnelly in a small ceremony in San Francisco’s City Hall just 20 weeks after meeting her in a London pub.

They now plan to have the marriage blessed in Britain and throw a party for family and friends.

Vegas said some people were suspicious of the couple’s wedding after such a whirlwind romance.

“I know the first question some people are probably asking is ‘Is she pregnant?’ She’s not. And there’s no family fall-out or anything like that. We just wanted to go away and marry.” he said.

Vegas said it was love at first sight when he laid eyes on Donnelly, 26, an interior designer.

“The moment I started talking to her, I fell in love. She might be beautiful on the outside, but she’s even more beautiful on the inside.

“It was all very whirlwind and simple. You meet a special person and don’t care about the practicalities,” he said.

“Falling in love with someone to that extent does feel like sheer lunacy. But I know there’s loads of people who’ll know what I’m going on about.”

Vegas, who is from St Helen’s, Merseyside, is currently filming his big screen debut in The Virgin of Liverpool.

He plays a drunken bingo caller opposite Royle Family star Ricky Tomlinson and Imelda Staunton.
