Dunne prepares for IBC title bid
Dubliner Bernard Dunne will shed the pounds in an attempt to win his first world title at the National Stadium on Friday, October 14.
The 25-year-old, unbeaten in 16 professional fights as a featherweight, will drop down to super bantamweight to fight England's Noel Wilders, 30, for the vacant IBC (International Boxing Council) world title.
Dunne said: "I don't envisage any problems with the weight - I'm working with a nutrionist now and I've only four pounds to drop. I'm just delighted to be fighting for a title.
"This is my first chance to become a champion in the pros and while the IBC might not be the most recognised world title, it's still a great stepping stone."
While Dunne headlines the six-fight bill, experienced middleweight Jim Rock will also battle for an IBC title. Wales' Alan Jones, who previously beat Rock on points, will face the Dubliner.
Belfast super middleweight Brian Magee and 1992 Olympian Paul Griffin, who has spent the previous five years in Australia, also feature on the impressive October 14 bill.
