John Dunlop plans to confirm Samuel at Monday’s five-day stage for the Ladbrokes St Leger after the colt put in a sparking piece of work this morning.

Dunlop is chasing his fourth win in the world’s oldest Classic following triumphs for Millenary (2000), Silver Patriarch (1997) and Moon Madness (1986).

His son of Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner Sakhee is rated as a 20-1 chance by the sponsors after his staying-on second in the March Stakes at Goodwood last month.

Dunlop said: “He is in good form and he worked very well this morning.

“I have been very pleased with him and as long as nothing happens over the weekend, the plan is to confirm him on Monday and we will see how we go.”
