Valencia striker Fernando Morientes is set to miss both legs of his side’s Champions League quarter-final against Chelsea after damaging his right shoulder while on duty with Spain.

Morientes sustained the injury during the first half of Spain’s 1-0 home win over Iceland on Wednesday night, and could be sidelined for up to a month.

Spain team doctor Genaro Borras said: “The shoulder will have to be immobilised for 15 days and he will be out between three to four weeks. It is not the first time Morientes has had a problem with the shoulder.”

Valencia travel to Chelsea for the first leg of their quarter-final tie next Wednesday, before hosting the return meeting on April 10.
