Stunned tornado survivors were picking through what is left of their battered communities today after storms killed at least 22 people in three states.
Fifteen people died in south-western Missouri. In the fading mining town of Picher, Oklahoma, at least six people were killed, and at least one person died in storms in Georgia.
Authorities said that as the system moved east yesterday, storms in Georgia killed at least one person in Dublin, about 120 miles south-east of Atlanta.
Lisa Janak, of the Georgia Emergency Management Agency, said a second person found in the home was taken to hospital in a critical condition.
