Organisers of a leading British music festival are being inundated with requests from budding pop groups to appear on an “unsung heroes” stage in front of thousands of fans, it was revealed today.
Tony Scott, who runs the Guilfest event in Guildford, Surrey, said he was being sent dozens of demo tapes every week from groups across the UK.
Around 40 young bands will be given the chance to appear on stage in front of up to 15,000 music lovers a day at the three-day festival in July.
“The response is getting bigger every year. It just shows how much musical talent there is across the country,” said Mr Scott.
Headline bands at the festival, which is in its 13th year, will include Blondie, Simple Minds and UB40.
