Lucie Blackman's father is meeting Scotland Yard officers after human remains were found in a cave in Japan.

The father of the missing bar hostess says Japanese police have kept him informed about the discovery of body parts in Tokyo Bay.

A head, torso, hand and feet have been found near the apartment of a Japanese businessman accused of having drugged and raped several women.

Tim Blackman says it is too early to say if the remains were those of his 22-year-old daughter Lucie, who disappeared in July last year.

The remains are being taken to Tokyo for identification. The results were expected on Saturday.

Mr Blackman said: "We are aware of developments in Japan and are being kept informed by Tokyo Metropolitan Police, and our family liaison officer at New Scotland Yard. We understand further searches are being made and DNA tests will be carried out".

He has appealed for the family's privacy to be respected.

Mr Blackman says he has no immediate plans to travel to Tokyo, where detectives have been hunting for his daughter since she disappeared last summer after telling a friend she was going on a drive to the ocean with a client.

Lucie Blackman was working as a hostess in Tokyo's Roppongi entertainment district to fund a trip round Asia after giving up her job with British Airways.

In October Japanese police arrested wealthy businessman Joji Obara, who now faces charges of having drugged and raped four women since 1996 after inviting them to his Miura apartment.
