About 200 people demonstrated outside the British Embassy in Tehran today, throwing stones at the building to protest at the US-led occupation of Iraq.

A few windows were broken in the incident but there was no major damage. The protesters clashed with anti-riot police who prevented them from getting closer to the embassy.

Police used tear gas to disperse the protesters and prevent them from entering the embassy building.

“This den of corruption must be closed,” chanted some protesters. Others demanded that the British ambassador be expelled.

The protest was the fourth demonstration in front of the embassy in about 10 days held to condemn damage to a Shiite Muslim shrine in Najaf, Iraq, caused by fighting between US-led forces and insurgents, as well as abuse of Iraqi prisoners.
