Paul Hanagan was hit with a 15-day ban, three of them deferred, at a Jockey Club disciplinary panel hearing yesterday.
The panel found Hanagan, riding Maktavish in the Hambleton Classified Stakes at Thirsk on April 16, to be in breach of the instruction concerning riding to the draw.
They accepted an admission from him that he was guilty of improper riding in that he failed to keep straight to the marker poles.
He had been referred to the Jockey Club because it was his sixth offence in 12 months.
Hanagan was suspended from May 14 to 25 inclusive, with the remaining three days deferred until November 6.
This was the second time in 12 months that Hanagan had been referred to the Jockey Club for not keeping straight to the marker poles. Last July he was suspended for eight days.
