US dentist in cash-for-candy offer

A US dentist is offering to buy children's trick-or-treat sweets from them this Halloween.

Craig Callen is so concerned about kids putting on weight and damaging their braces by eating the calorific treats that he has offered youngsters $1 per pound of sweets they bring in, with a 5lb limit per child.

The dentist - who is also giving children a free toothbrush - said: "Visiting your dentist twice a year and brushing your teeth are great preventive measures, but doing away with excess sweets would really give your teeth a healthy boost.

"Kids can have the fun of trick-or-treating, and now their piggy banks will benefit as well."
