US aims to have control of Kabul by Winter

America would like to take over the Afghan capital, Kabul by next Winter according to US Secretary of State, Colin Powell.

He has conceeded that air raids and ground movements will be much more difficult in the expected bad Winter conditions.

He is also not ruling out that military action will continue during the Muslim Holy month of Ramadan which begins in mid-November.

Mr Powell also said the Northern Alliance is moving on Kabul much more aggressively.

An abandoned Taliban military base and nearby Kabul airport have come under attack.
