Brooking says Hutch may remain Hammer

West Ham director Trevor Brooking says Don Hutchison could still have a future at Upton Park – despite expressing his interest in joining Rangers.

West Ham director Trevor Brooking says Don Hutchison could still have a future at Upton Park – despite expressing his interest in joining Rangers.

Hutchison has suffered from dreadful injury problems over the last season but has now returned to full fitness and is in the Scotland squad for the Euro 2004 qualifier against Germany on Saturday.

The midfielder will be playing in Division One next season unless he can secure a move away from the Hammers, and Hutchison recently admitted he would love to move to Glasgow and join Alex McLeish’s Scottish champions.

But Brooking told the club’s official website, www.whufc.co.uk: “In the quotes I saw he mentioned he would like to get first-team football and I could understand that.

“Perhaps one or two of the Rangers lads, with the success they have had this year, have mentioned something to him.

“But Hutch is one of those that, depending on who moves on, could well be a regular anyway next year and should contribute quite a few goals in Division One.”
