A car bomb killed seven Colombian policemen today when it was detonated as they drove by in three patrol cars.

Eight other policemen were injured, said officials.

Police were responding to reports of a guerrilla attack in the town of Andinapolis, 160 miles south-west of the capital Bogota, when the attack took place

Members of Colombia’s largest rebel group, the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC, are the prime suspects, said police.

Colombia’s 40-year rebel conflict claims some 3,500 lives a year.
