Ten Taliban militants have been arrested in Afghanistan for the acid attack on girl pupils earlier this month.

Kandahar governor Rahmatullah Raufi said today that “several” of them have confessed to taking part in the attack.

Mr Raufi said that high-ranking Taliban fighters paid the 10 militants 2,000 dollars to carry out the attack.

The attackers squirted the acid from water bottles onto three groups of students and teachers walking to school in Kandahar city on November 12.

Several girls suffered burns to the face and needed hospital treatment.

Mr Raufi said that after the investigation was complete, the men will be tried in open court.
