Bill Clinton may take his sax on the road - for a reported $250,000 fee.

The former US president is considering an invitation to play the saxophone and join musical stars at Italy's San Remo Festival.

Mr Clinton's aide Jake Siewert says he does not know what fee has been offered.

The festival runs from February 26 to March 3.

Mr Siewart added: "He's been invited to that but we haven't made a final decision".

A festival spokesman said he could not comment on who had been engaged to play this year.

Mr Clinton most recently played the sax in public during a farewell presidential visit to New Hampshire in January.

He blew a few riffs of Louie Louie with a high school band.

During the 1992 presidential campaign, Clinton donned dark sunglasses and played to the tune of Heartbreak Hotel on The Arsenio Hall Show.

Since leaving office last month, Clinton has received at least 100 requests for paid speaking engagements and appearances, at an average of $100,000 per appearance.
