This year's IFTA nominees have been announced and there are a few surprises

The nominations for this year’s Irish Film and Television awards have been announced today, leaving bosses over at RTÉ very happy and others in shock.

Thirty-six of RTÉ’s programmes have made the shortlist although it is TV3’s new crime soap Red Rock that dominates, with an impressive seven nominations.

Fair City has secured four noms while, sadly, TG4’s Ros na Rún didn’t make the cut this year.

We are delighted to see that 50 Ways to Kill Your Mammy has been nominated in the entertainment category.

The ceremony will take place on October 22, with TV3 broadcasting a highlights show on October 25.
