Ecomium ready to return at Curragh

One-time Derby contender Ecomium is set to return to action on Saturday in the Stanleybet Diamond Stakes at the Curragh.

One-time Derby contender Ecomium is set to return to action on Saturday in the Stanleybet Diamond Stakes at the Curragh.

The Jeremy Noseda-trained colt was a well-fancied 14-1 shot for the Epsom Classic but a corn in his foot ruled him out of a crack at the big race.

Ecomium has suffered a series of minor problems since but is an intended runner in Saturday’s Listed race over a mile and a quarter.

The Sadler’s Wells colt won a 10-furlong maiden on the opening day of the Craven meeting back in April and Noseda has opted to keep him at that trip rather than take up his engagement in the longer Godolphin Stakes at Newmarket on Friday.

He told www.jeremynoseda.com: “I will be delighted to have him back on the track.

“Unfortunately, there’s no suitable race for him in England over a mile and a quarter until October 29, which has left us in the position where we have to send him to the Curragh instead.”

Ecomium also holds an entry in the Emirates Airline Champion Stakes for which Coral make him a 33-1 chance.
