France faces another day of violent protests against a proposed rise in the retirement age.

After a spate of riots in Paris and the country's second-biggest city, Lyon, there are signs that an alliance between young demonstrators and striking workers could seriously threaten plans for pension reform.

If approved by the Senate, people will be forced to work for an extra two years before retiring at 62.
