Delhi success for Kiradech

Kiradech Aphinbarnrat picked up his first Asian Tour title after the Thai golfer birdied the last to win the SAIL Open at Delhi Golf Club.

Starting the day two behind overnight leader Siddikur Rahman, Kiradech carded a four-under 68 to finish 16 under par, one ahead of his Bangladesh rival.

Birdies on the 10th, 12th and 14th had seen the 21-year-old hit the front, only for a bogey at the 16th to drop him back level with Siddikur before he held his nerve at the final hole.

“The putt on the last was very near but my hand was shaking!” said Kiradech.

“I’m just happy I won. I’ve waited two years for this and I’m very proud of myself. I learned a lot from my last two years on the Asian Tour. I felt nervous but I told myself to stick to my game plan and concentrate on my game. That worked for me.”

Siddikur finished second on 15 under following a 71 that featured two birdies and one bogey.

“Overall I enjoyed my round and losing is part of the game,” he said. "I’m getting better and my confidence level is still high. Kiradech played really good and deserved the win. It was his day.”

India’s Ajeetesh Sandu claimed third on 14 under par with compatriot Manav Jaini fourth, a shot back.
