The voluntary redundancy package on offer from Aer Lingus has been over subscribed.
A statement from the airline reveals 1,600 have applied for the offer, 300 more than the company where looking for.
Workers are being offered nine weeks of pay for every year served with the company.
Expressions of interest have come from across all departments within the airline.
Aer Lingus Chief Executive Willie Walsh has said: “Clearly we made an attractive offer available to staff and the redundancy terms have been widely accepted as being attractive and I think it certainly helps to achieve the challenging targets of production over the coming years.”
Bernard Harbor of trade union IMPACT has said their concern now lies with the staff left behind.
Mr Harbor said: “The important thing for impact is that the staff who remain in the company will be treated well going into the future.”
“Cabin crew for example have given 33% more productivity in the last three years.”
“We think that that is a massive contribution to the company and we want to make sure that they are respected and treated well in the future.”
