10 missing after attack on Chinese in Cameroon

Ten people are missing and one person has been injured after unidentified assailants attacked the camp of a Chinese company in Cameroon, according to reports.

The Xinhua News Agency cited the Chinese embassy in Yaounde, the African nation’s capital, when reporting the attack, which took place on Friday night.

The report does not identify the Chinese company involved in the attack or give details of its operation. It also does not mention a possible motive.

China has a growing presence in Cameroon, helping the country build infrastructure, sports facilities and public health projects.

Trade between the two countries reached 1.88 billion US dollars (£1.11 billion) in 2013.

The Chinese embassy said it had demanded that the African nation's government find the missing people and ensure the safety of Chinese nationals in the region, the news agency reported.
