Aston Villa striker Juan Pablo Angel could face knee surgery after suffering suspected ligament damage while on international duty with Colombia.
Angel, who scored 23 goals for Villa last season, will have further tests today to discover the full extent of the damage after undergoing a scan yesterday.
The 28-year-old was preparing for the World Cup qualifiers with Ecuador and Uruguay when he suffered the injury and Villa are being kept informed of any developments.
Colombian medic Hector Fabio Cruz said: “The results of the scan revealed a small tear. Juan Pablo desperately wants to play for his country and we hope he will make a quick recovery.”
