Double Olympic champion Kelly Holmes confirmed tonight she will not compete at Sunday’s IAAF Grand Prix meeting in Rieti.
Holmes, winner of the Olympic 800 and 1500 metre gold medals in Athens, indicated earlier this week she would run at the Italian venue.
However, since returning to a massive welcome and attending celebrations in Tonbridge, Holmes is now very tired after the exertions of racing and her tremendous homecoming.
Jane Cowmeadow, her London agent, explained: “Kelly is now concentrating on getting back into training and she will run her first race at the Berlin Golden League meeting next Friday.
“She’s very tired and believes a few days rest is now necessary before returning to the track.”
Holmes, after Berlin, is also expected to compete in the two-day World Athletic final in Monaco.
Following the meeting the World Athletic Gala will be staged at Monte Carlo, where it is expected that she will be named World Athlete of the Year following her achievements in Athens.
