A minimum price for alcohol is to be set in Scotland at 50 pence per unit.

The initiative is an effort to tackle binge-drinking.

It will make the cheapest bottle of wine £4.69p while a four-pack of lager would cost at least £3.52p.

In the Republic of Ireland, Junior Health Minister Roisín Shortall hopes to introduce a similar bill to set a minimum price for alcohol later this year.
