Derry City midfielder Kevin Deery will find out this week how long it will be before he can return to football after being forced to abort his comeback after just nine minutes.

The 20-year-old midfielder sustained medial knee ligament damage in pre-season and returned to action on Friday against UCD, but aggravated the injury in an accidental collision and was forced off again.

Derry City manager Stephen Kenny said: “Kevin was very unlckly but it appears that it is just a strain rather than a tear as was the case with the original injury. We’ll send him for a scan and hopefully find out later this week.”
