'I don't want him dead': Texan fugitive's wife

The wife of recaptured fugitive Donald Newbury pleaded with him to give himself up before he and fellow escaped convict Patrick Murphy surrendered to police.

Before his surrender, Jacqueline Newbury said: "I don't want him hurt. I don't want him dead".

Newbury and Murphy had been holed up in a room at a Holiday Inn, close to the fugitives' abandoned van.

Nearby rooms were evacuated as officers spoke by phone with the men.

Eric Singer of KKTV in Colorado Springs had earlier interviewed the two men by telephone from an office in the hotel.

The missing convicts were believed to be armed with a dozen weapons, including assault rifles and shotguns.

Four of the other convicts were captured peacefully on Monday in Woodland Park, 15 miles from Colorado Springs.

The other convict killed himself as authorities closed in on a cramped motor home where the fugitives apparently had been staying since January 1.
