An explosion rocked the Moscow metro today, causing casualties, the Interfax news agency reported.
The Emergency Situations Ministry said it had no immediate information.
Interfax, citing emergency officials, said that the explosion occurred in the second carriage of a train as it left the Paveletskaya station near the centre of the Russian capital. Smoke had filled the tunnel.
The Russian capital has been on alert for terrorist attacks following a series of suicide bombings that officials have blamed on the war in Chechnya.
