Saturdays' Una to carry on touring

Pregnant star Una Healy of The Saturdays has vowed she will carry on touring despite being a mum-to-be – but is ditching her heels for flats.

Pregnant star Una Healy of The Saturdays has vowed she will carry on touring despite being a mum-to-be – but is ditching her heels for flats.

In an interview with Hello! magazine, the Irish star also revealed she is to have a baby girl after finding out the child’s sex at the 20-week scan last week.

Healy said: “I come from a family of girls, I went to an all-girls school and I’m in a girl band, so I guess it’s fitting that I’m having a daughter.”

After finding out he was to have a little girl, her boyfriend England rugby star Ben Foden said: “I am delighted.”

The 30-year-old singer, who starts a UK tour with The Saturdays next month, insisted that the fact she is expecting will not stop her from performing.

“I’ve been quite surprised that people have said, ’How will you do this tour?’ Naturally I’ll be careful and I’d never do anything that would put our baby at risk. But I’m pregnant, not ill.

“Loads of women continue to work through their pregnancies and this is my job, so why wouldn’t I carry on doing what I love – especially when I feel so well,” she said.

And she said she will have a tailor on hand who specialises in adapting clothes for pregnant women to ensure her outfits fit perfectly. However she said she will no longer be attempting to totter on heels – opting instead for “sensible shoes” after she suffered a tumble a few weeks ago which left her “panicked”.

In the first joint interview since the pregnancy was announced, the couple said their impending parenthood was a pleasant surprise.

“We weren’t trying for a baby,” said Foden, 26. “But we’d talked about starting a family and we’re in a loving and committed relationship, so it wasn’t a massive shock. I was over the moon. I plan on spending the rest of my life with Una.”

The couple had attended the marriage of England team mate Mike Tindall to Zara Phillips in the summer but were still keeping the pregnancy under wraps, with Healy pretending she had tonsillitis.

“I felt awful about that,” she said.
