Button - My F1 future is bright with Benetton

Jenson Button wants to make a triumphant return to Williams as Formula One World Champion.

Button is confident his new team Benetton can challenge for the title - although not until 2002.

The racer will return to Williams the following year having been loaned out for two seasons because of the arrival of Colombia's Juan Pablo Montoya.

"I've got to concentrate on getting the team up to a level where they can fight for the Championship, which I hope they can do in 2002 before I do leave," said Button, who will be 21 on January 19.

"But its difficult to say what will happen. I've just got to concentrate on now and not look too far into the future."

Button is already relishing the prospect of coming up against former team-mate Ralf Schumacher and Montoya when the new season gets under way in Melbourne on March 4.

And Button - who last week was tipped as a future world beater by Ferrari's reigning champion Michael Schumacher - insists that the sight of a Williams' BMW ahead of him on the track will only act as a spur.

"It will make me feel more motivated to pass - especially if it's Ralf," he said at the Autosport International show in Birmingham.

"It's going to be great to be able to race against the team I drove for last year.

"I think were going to be on a similar level from mid-season to the end of the year. I'm really going to enjoy that, especially with Juan Pablo there as well."

Button is confident that Benetton - which is now owned by Renault who dominated Formula One for much of the 1990's - will be more competitive than last year.

The Enstone-based outfit finished fourth in the Championship last year, one place behind Williams, with Giancarlo Fiscichella and Alexander Wurz, the latter having made way for the arrival of Button.

"It all seems pretty good," added Button, who scored 12 points to finish an excellent eighth in the Drivers' standings in his historic maiden season.

"We've had a few days testing with last year's car and this year's engine, and we've been progressing and taking big steps every time.

"Michelin has impressed me in testing too. Every time we go out they give us a new tyre which is shockingly better.

"Obviously, concentrating on race distances is what they need to work on, but I'm really pleased with the package I've got."
