An Iranian military transport plane with 94 people on board crashed into a 10-storey building in the capital Tehran today, the official Islamic Republic News Agency reported.

An Iranian military transport plane with 94 people on board crashed into a 10-storey building in the capital Tehran today, the official Islamic Republic News Agency reported.

The C-130 crashed into the building in Azari residential district while trying to land in Tehran’s Mehrabad airport, state media reported. Ten people were reported killed on the ground.

“The building is on fire now,” the television news report said.

Reports had initially said the plane crashed immediately after taking off. It was not immediately clear if there were any survivors.

The plane was carrying 84 passengers and 10 crew. The cause of the crash was not known.
