Timmy Murphy has escaped serious injury following his fall at Southwell on Tuesday evening.

The Grand National-winning jockey was riding Explosive Fox for his close friend Sean Curran in the Spain v Russia In Play At Betdaq Novices’ Handicap Chase when the pair parted company three-out, at which point the race was seemingly in the bag.

“I’ve talked to Verity (Green, Murphy’s fiance), and he came home in the early hours of the morning,” said the jockey’s agent, Chris Broad.

“They’ve done quite a lot of tests on him and we believe nothing is broken.

“He’s very sore and that’s as much as we know at the moment.

“He’s probably going to rest it now and see what course it takes. He’ll be heading for some physio, I’m sure. Nothing is broken but he’ll be out for a few days.

“They were looking at his neck but he could move all his limbs at all stages and he was conscious as well.

“The Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham were brilliant with him and Timmy would like to thank them.”
