NASA loses contact with International Space Station

NASA has said it has lost contact with the International Space Station.

It happened as flight controllers in Houston were updating the software on-board the station when one of the data relay systems malfunctioned.

It says Mission Control was able to communicate with the crew through Russian ground stations and told them to connect a back-up computer.

It reported that both the station and its crew were doing well, but it was not clear whether communication had been re-established.
