France is expected to lift the state of emergency imposed during a three-week long wave of rioting and arson attacks late last year.
The move is due to be formally approved during a Cabinet meeting today with the state of emergency which allowed for the use of curfews to be lifted tomorrow.
Youths, mostly from housing projects in the less affluent sections of the city, set fire to some nine thousand vehicles during the unrest that broke out in late October.
Officials had feared that New Year celebrations posed the prospect of further unrest but police say the occasion passed off without major incident.
