Patrik Berger claims he will be open to offers from foreign clubs from January 1 if he is still in the Liverpool shadows by then.
The Czech midfielder has been linked with Celtic and Sunderland in recent days, but insists he will not be quitting Anfield before the transfer window shuts at the weekend.
His contract expires next summer, which means he is able to have transfer discussions with foreign clubs but not Premiership ones from January 1.
Berger has barely got a look in at Liverpool during pre-season and has not even figured on the bench so far this campaign, but he is prepared to see out his contract in the hope of a move nearer his Prague home.
Berger, who has been offered a one-year contract extension by Liverpool to start next summer, said: “The transfer deadline comes up on August 31 and I do not intend to go anywhere before that date.
“But, on January 1, if the situation is still the same at Liverpool by then, I would start to think about moving.
“If I did move from Liverpool I would prefer to be nearer the Czech Republic.”
Liverpool’s Finnish star Jari Litmanen also seems certain to still be at the club when the transfer window shuts despite being given permission to talk to Galatasaray.
Litmanen’s agent, Harri Kampman, said: “Jari is staying at Liverpool, he won’t go to Turkey.
“He’s ready to play for Liverpool whenever he is picked and he will continue there.”
Litmanen turned down a move to Ajax earlier in the summer when the Dutch club failed to meet his wage demands.
