North Korean leader Kim Jong Il’s health appears to have improved, according to South Korea’s spy chief.

Opposition politicians said spy chief Kim Sung-ho reported that his agency believes Kim “is not physically perfect”, but he said the National Intelligence Service believes the leader has no trouble running the country.

The spy chief also told the government that the NIS believes Kim’s eldest son, Kim Jong Nam, recently travelled to France. He gave no further details.

Japan’s Fuji Television reported on Monday that the son was in Paris last week and met a neurosurgeon who later left for North Korea.

South Korean and US officials say the 66-year-old leader suffered a stroke, but North Korea denies he is ill.
