Exiles swoop for Murphy
London Irish have signed Canadian number eight Phil Murphy from Heineken Cup runners-up Perpignan.
The 26-year-old was a part of the French side’s run to the showpiece European final where they lost to Toulouse and has won 16 caps for Canada.
London Irish managing director Conor O’Shea said: “Phil Murphy’s achievements with Perpignan speak for themselves.
“At the relatively young age of 26 he is among the most talented number eights playing in Europe at present. That, together with his Irish ancestry, should make him a natural fit for London Irish.
“The combination of Phil and the evergreen Chris Sheasby means that we have strength in depth at number eight to see us through the World Cup period and beyond.”
