Hundreds of tourists have been evacuated from campsites in northern Spain after the region was hit by heavy rains and floods.

Rescue workers responded to calls for help from two different campsites in the outskirts of the towns Llanos de Senart and Biescas in the Pyrenees.

Most of the evacuated were French tourists, including a group of boy scouts, the Interior Ministry in the northern province of Huesca said.

The tourists were given temporary shelter in municipal sport complexes.

Civil Guard officials also reported the rescue of four French citizens who were trapped in a vehicle that had been swept away by floodwaters.
