Martin O'Neill has said he believes Roy Keane is capable of managing the Republic of Ireland at some point in the future.
O’Neill made the comments during an interview last night on English radio station TalkSport.
He discussed Ireland’s performance in the qualifying campaign so far and the upcoming match against Scotland before discussing Keane, who is currently assistant manager at Aston Villa and also working under Martin O’Neill for Ireland.
“He’s enjoying both roles,” said O’Neill. “I’m quite sure that in the not-too-distant future he will manage on his own again.”
He was then asked if he saw Roy as a future Ireland manager.
"I don’t see why not,” said O’Neill “I’m sure these sort of experiences will stand him in good stead. I think probably his experience at Ipswich has probably knocked him back a little bit and upset him a little bit.
"But I’ve no doubt he is very capable and he will be a manager at both club level and international level in the not too distant future."
