Twice Over takes York test

Henry Cecil’s multiple Group One winner Twice Over will attempt to redeem his reputation in the Sky Bet York Stakes on July 23.

Henry Cecil’s multiple Group One winner Twice Over will attempt to redeem his reputation in the Sky Bet York Stakes on July 23.

The dual Champion Stakes hero won at the Dubai Carnival in early March but has since flopped in the World Cup, the Lockinge and most recently the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Cecil has decided not to try to defend his Eclipse title with the six-year-old and he will instead head to the Knavesmire in three weeks.

“Twice Over is in good form and we have found no reason why he ran so poorly at Ascot,” said Cecil on his website.

“He had been working very well at home but he seemed to get upset in the box before the race and was reluctant to go into the paddock or the stalls.

“He is in a Group Two at York in mid-July (Sky Bet York Stakes), and hopefully we shall see his best form there.”

Cecil also confirmed that Frankel was working towards his clash with Canford Cliffs in the Sussex Stakes and that Midday had no excuses for her defeat in Ireland last weekend.

“Frankel seems fine since his win at Ascot and we are training him for the Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood,” added Cecil.

“Midday ran a decent race in Ireland. The winner is a very good filly and we have no excuses.”
