Hospital bosses in India who controversially used Viagra to save the lives of three newborn babies haven't ruled out using it again.

The children were suffering from blue baby syndrome but health authorities hadn't given permission for the treatment to be used.

A hospital spokesman said no other babies have been given the drug but staff may consider using it again.

The Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences vice-president APS Krishnan said if a similar case came in again "we would like to be cautious".

Dr PK Rajeev, head of the hospital's department of newborn intensive care, has been asked to "go slow" on the treatment according to The Times of India.

It is reported to be the first case of the drug being used to treat pulmonary hypertension in newborns.
