Joe Calzaghe is set to enjoy some home comforts in the ninth defence of his WBO super-middleweight title on July 21.
Calzaghe was expected to make his American debut in mid-summer, but promoter Frank Warren is now working to take his champion back to Cardiff.
It follows his one-round destruction of Germany’s previously undefeated Mario Veit at the Cardiff International Arena, while other Welsh venues want to stage Calzaghe’s next fight against an opponent yet to be named.
The Veit stoppage was the third impressive victory in a row for Calzaghe, following the wins over Omar Sheika and Richie Woodhall after a spell troubled by injury.
Meanwhile, British light-middleweight champion Wayne Alexander will defend his title on July 28 in London against a challenger to be named.
Alexander’s last outing came at late notice against Namibia’s WBO champion Harry Simon in February which he lost in round five.
