Sixteen people, including several teenage school pupils, were killed and eight wounded when the truck taking them to school crashed into another truck south of the capital Cairo, police officials said today.
It is not uncommon for people to ride at the back of trucks in Egypt, where police estimate that at least 6,000 are killed every year in car accidents primarily caused by bad roads, lax enforcement of traffic laws and reckless driving.
The eight wounded in the crash were taken to hospital, said the police officials.
