Williams was understandably delighted with herself, saying: “When I got back into the restaurant I received a standing ovation. I was proud. I just showed every man in there I can stand up to bullies and other men. It was a win for the ladies!”

Now footage has emerged of the incident - with CCTV video showing the tennis star jumping to her feet and dashing out the door of the restaurant in hot pursuit of the would-be thief.

We have got to say - he was moving remarkable slowly for a man being chased down by a woman with 21 Grand Slam singles titles.

Maybe he realised resistance was futile.

The video shows Williams very graciously letting the guy go once he returned her phone.
