Mayo team costs increase by €750k but Board continue to run a surplus
Mayo’s team administration expenses have increased by €750,000 in the past year to €1.6m, although the County Board still managed to return a surplus of €87,000, .
The westerners offset the 47% increase in total expenditure, driven by increasing costs in funding the inter-county teams, match expenses and games development, with a 44% rise in total income, due to large increases in commercial income, fundraising activities and transfer income.
The Senior footballers, who played into October before losing an All-Ireland final replay, accounted for 62% of the team expenses.
The county’s U21 All-Ireland champions, Minor Connacht champions and Junior All-Ireland finalists accounted for 15% of the expenses. Hurling teams, including the Nicky Rackard Cup winners and U21B hurling finalists, made up 12% of the total.
A further 10% were invoices carried over from 2015.
The breakdown of expenses revealed that catering costs increased to €447,280 (up 159% from 2015), sportsgear and equipment cost increased to €360,785 (up 1055%) and medical expenses increased to €211,104 (up 57%).
Travelling expenses also increased, up by 12% to €580,547.
On the income side of the accounts, sponsorship income went up to €478,141 (up 119%) and Cairde Mayo fundraising totalled €638,396 (up 70%). Transfer income, including GAA grants to cover team expenses and coaching, amounted to €751,506 (up 54%).
