Lady In Red is top cringer, says survey

Chris De Burgh’s chart-topper Lady In Red is the record most likely to have guests cringing at weddings, a survey found today.

Chris De Burgh’s chart-topper Lady In Red is the record most likely to have guests cringing at weddings, a survey found today.

The eighties ballad topped a list of songs which people say are the worst they have ever heard for the newly-weds’ first dance.

Second in the poll by music channel Music Choice was Pure And Simple by Hear’Say, whose former singer, Kym Marsh, will herself tie the knot tomorrow with former EastEnders star Jack Ryder.

Her ex-bandmates have not been invited to the event which takes place in St Albans so there is little chance of a live rendition.

In third place was Pop Idol star Gareth Gates with his first number one Unchained Melody.

Fourth was Bryan Adams’s Everything I Do (I Do It For You), while Love Is All Around by Wet Wet Wet came fifth.

The survey of 1,000 people was commissioned by the channel to launch its Wedding Songs week of themed programmes later this year.

Simon Bell of Music Choice said: "The British public was more than happy to welcome the cast of Popstars and Pop Idol into their living rooms, but when it comes to weddings, Hear’say and Gareth are clearly off the invite list."
