Shelbourne are the Eircom league champions after the FAI dismissed an appeal by St Patrick’s Athletic into the deduction of 15 points in the row over the registration of a player.

The FAI today said the appeal board, having considered all the documentation and hearings from both sides, decided to dismiss the appeal and uphold the decision of the Officers of the Eircom League .

The League is to carry out a review of the registration of all players in all clubs for the current season, and where it’s found that players had played in any league game in contravention of Rule 16A, then the rule in full shall be applied.

The Board also said the League needs to put in place proper procedures to ensure that any similar problems cannot arise in the future.
