Ethiopian great Derartu Tulu will return to Portsmouth to compete in the BUPA Great South Run on October 9.
The two-time Olympic 10,000m gold medallist will be out to triumph in the 10-mile race she last won nine years ago.
The 33-year-old, who won her Olympic golds in 1992 and 2000, finished fourth in the recent World Championship marathon won by Paula Radcliffe.
She claimed first place in the high-quality Hydro Active Women’s Challenge, a 5km road race, in London on Sunday.
“It’s good to get back racing again and even better winning,” said Tulu, a three-times cross country world champion and former winner of the London and Tokyo marathons.”
She is also entered for the BUPA Great North Run on September 18.
Paul Tergat, Kenya’s marathon world record holder, will also race in the Portsmouth event in October and event organisers are excited to have confirmed Tulu in the women’s race.
“Obviously, we are now delighted Tulu is joining him at the event and I’m certain we are going to see two very fast races,” said media director David Hart.
“She’s not only a great runner but an outstanding character and a great example of what you can achieve if you persevere.
“It will be great to see her again in Portsmouth where I am sure the spectators will appreciate her presence.
“Tulu will also see a great difference at the venue where the race is now one of the best on the world calendar and now annually attracts a massive field.”
