Eric Bana scooped the top honour at Australia's Film Institute annual awards event in Melbourne on Thursday.
'Romulus, My Father' was named 2007's Best Film by the Antipodean version of the Academy Awards, with its star, native Australian Bana, beating his 11-year-old co-star Kodi Smit-McPhee for the Best Actor award.
Smit-McPhee, who plays the 'Troy' star's son in director Richard Roxburgh's film adaptation of Raimond Gatia's childhood memoirs, later scooped the prize for Best Young Actor.
China-born actress Joan Chen won the prize for Best Actress for her portrayal of a Shanghai nightclub singer in 'The Home Song Stories', which swept the event with eight wins, including Best Director for Tony Ayres and Best Screenplay.
