Motorsport: Qualifying for Power Tour complete
Qualifying for tomorrow’s PowerTour series has been completed at a sunny Castle Combe in Wiltshire.
Featuring the seventh round double header in the British F3 Scholarship Class, Formula Ford Zetec and Ford Fiesta Championships, there was a strong Irish contingent - all seeking top qualifying places ahead of tomorrow’s races.
In the first F3 Scholarship Class stand alone session, the championship top trio of Gilmore, Keohane and Kerr endured varying fortunes.
Although Keohane was second fastest to Robert Doornbos for the opening quarter, the Clonakilty driver slipped back the order to eighth place. Meanwhile, Kerr recovered from an incident with Mark Mayall and was in the top four as the session drew to a close.
On the very final lap, Doornbos posted the fastest lap - 1 minute 01.212 seconds to claim pole ahead of Matthew Gilmore.
Kerr and Ernani Judice are on the second row of the Scholarship Class with Parthiva Sureshwaren and Mark Mayall next. Keohane improved one place and will start from the fourth row with Kazuki Hoshino.
Kerr dominated the second session as first, Gilmore led the chasing pack. Fellow Irish driver, Michael Keohane was well down the order. Ernani Judice moved into second as Kerr broke the 61 second barrier.
Keohane improved a few places to take seventh and delivered a sterling performance on the final lap to move into third with Matthew Gilmore fourth. Kerr and Judice are on the front row.
Meanwhile, in the Formula Ford Zetec Championship, Denmark’s, Ronnie Bremer is on pole with Gary Turkington, the best of the Irish in ninth. Robert Scott (15th.); Adam Carroll (17th.) Tony Rodgers (21st.) James Murphy (26th.) and Emmet O’Brien (31) are the other Irish qualifiers.
Irish drivers, Colin Turkington and Eoin Murray are on the second row for tomorrow’s seventh round of the Ford Fiesta Zetec-S Championship. Matt Pinny and championship leader, Nick Padley are on the front row.
