Japan’s coastguard today said a helicopter carrying four people has gone missing off the country’s northern coast.

Coastguard spokesman Hajime Hasegawa said the helicopter lost contact off the coast of Aomori, some 420 miles north of Tokyo.

The coastguard dispatched three vessels and three planes to search for the missing helicopter.

Public broadcaster NHK said a TV announcer and a cameraman were on board along with two pilots.

The media crew were aboard to cover a fire.
